Point-of-Rental Software’s First Installation in Guam

In May of this year, Point-of-Rental installed its first system on the island of Guam, the western most territory of the United States, an island approximately 3,300 miles west of Hawaii, 1,500 miles east of the Philippines, and 1,550 miles south of Japan. Although we have installed systems in places we thought were “the middle of nowhere,” no location has been as remote as this! Truly a tropical island paradise, Guam is approximately thirty miles long and four to nine miles wide, a tiny speck in the vast Pacific Ocean. Joe White of our support group volunteered to endure the seventeen-hour flight from Dallas to Guam to install and train the rental pros at East-West Rental Center (and he happened to do some snorkeling as well!).

East-West had been using a competitor’s UNIX-based rental management software for years, but after viewing demonstrations of Point-of-Rental software at The Rental Show for four consecutive years, Jim Adkins and his son James, president and vice-president respectively, decided to switch to Point-of-Rental’s Enterprise Windows® product. On the ARA member-to-member forum in August, James Adkins noted: “…We just started with POR at the end of May 2011 and I could not be happier. If there are ever problems, they get resolved ASAP, emails are answered on weekends and at night; the level of support is simply amazing.”

James also commented in the forum in September: “…Since converting [from a Unix-based system], I feel that I am more in touch with our business than ever before and I have NEVER seen/heard of a support system better than POR… To say that the support is amazing is an understatement. Keep in mind that I live on Guam, 8,000 miles and 16 hours time difference away, and I feel like I have the POR support staff in the next building over. I call, they answer. I ask, they reply and don’t make me feel like an idiot… There are some good folks over there and IMHO (in my humble opinion) they go above and beyond expectations… When I call I feel like I am talking to “rental people” and not computer people.”

Although the installation of their Point-of-Rental™ System is undoubtedly a milestone for the company, East-West Rental Center has had significant milestones of ingenuity and resourcefulness in its 39-year history. A very recent addition is their Point-of-Rental hosted website which contains their complete history on the About Us page. Please click here to read the incredible company history including the typhoon that propelled it to success, the recession that nearly devastated it, and the owner’s ingenuity that helped revive the island’s economy. It is truly a testimony to the amazing people that make up our rental industry. Welcome aboard, EWRC, and we look forward to serving you for years to come!
